Charitable Gift Annuities
Provide security for the future, for you and children of Marines
A charitable gift annuity is a contract between you and the Scholarship Foundation. The Foundation promises to make lifetime annuity payments to you, or another beneficiary of your choosing, in return for your gift today. The rate you receive is determined by the rates in effect at the time of the contract, your age (and the age of any co-annuitants) and whether you want your payments to begin now or in the future. Assets that remain at the end of the contract term will be used by the Scholarship Foundation to Honor Marines by Educating Their Children.
Gift annuities are the most popular life income gift because they are easy to establish and can often increase the income received from the asset used to fund the annuity.
After serving in the Marine Corps for more than 30 years and putting two children through college, Dennis, 66, felt it was his duty to make a contribution to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation. Despite his best intentions, he and his wife Mary, 65, were still concerned about having enough dependable income during their retirement years. The solution? A $25,000 charitable gift annuity.
Based on their ages, they will receive a payment rate of 4.3 percent, which means that they will receive $1,075 each year for the remainder of their lives. They're also eligible for a federal income tax charitable deduction of $6,930* when they itemize. Finally, they know that after their lifetimes, the remaining amount will be used to help military children get an education for years to come.
*Based on annual payments and a 2.4 percent charitable midterm federal rate. Deductions vary based on income earned.
